  • Maxillofacial surgical retractors designed to temporarily separate and hold back any of the edges of incisions performed in various nasal structures, exposing and providing better access to the nasal cavities and/or nasal sinuses. These retractors usually consist of handheld manual instruments in a variety of shapes and sizes; they frequently include instruments with a shaft ending in a rounded or hook-like blade perpendicular to the shaft and an integral flat or tubular handle. Nasal surgical retractors are used in a variety of therapeutic and surgical procedures inside the nose. Dedicated nasal retractors intended to retract the edges of the nasal sinuses (i.e., nasal antrum) are also available; other dedicated retractors intended to expand the natural nasal cavities are usually classified as nasal specula.
