Surgical retractors designed to temporarily separate and hold back any of the various thoracic organs and/or structures, exposing and providing access to other tissues, organs, or thoracic structures. Thoracic organ retractors are manual, handheld instruments usually with blades capable of holding back the intra-thoracic organs (e.g., heart, lungs) and/or their structures (e.g., cardiac valves). Thoracic organ retractors are available in a variety of shapes and styles and are selected according to the thoracic structure or organ to be exposed or retracted. Dedicated thoracic organ retractors are available for organs such as the heart and lungs.
