Transparent panels or canopies mounted above a food serving system as a sanitary barrier to protect against airborne contaminants. Food guards are usually constructed of aluminum or stainless steel frames with glass or acrylic panes. Additionally, food guards can be portable or mounted. Portable models are freestanding or secured with brackets, and mounted models are permanently secured to a table or accompanying food service system. Food guards can be single-sided, which only allows access to the food from one side, or double-sided, which allows access from both sides.
