  • refers to a superficial feature identified by dissection in the frontal lobe. It is located on the dorsal surface and, in the human, separates the precentral gyrus caudally from the superior frontal gyrus and the upper part of the middle frontal gyrus rostrally ( Duvernoy-1992 ). It should not be confused with the superior precentral dimple of the macaque. Sometimes referred to as a sulcus ( Szabo-1984 ), the dimple is a very short horizontal groove embedded in the precentral gyrus of that species ( Paxinos-2009a ). Equivalent structures are not found in the smooth cerebral cortex of the rat or mouse.
