Sizers designed to facilitate the selection of an appropriate size of implant that are used to improve the voice quality by altering the position of a paralyzed vocal cord (i.e., a thyroplasty implant). These sizers typically consist of calibrated plastic measuring devices that are inserted in the laryngeal surgical window to determine the appropriate size of the implant to be placed. Once the appropriate size of the implant is determined the sizer is removed and replaced with the permanent implant. Thyroplasty implant sizers are used in surgical procedures performed in patients with unilateral vocal cord paralysis.
