Simulators designed for training clinicians in the use of ultrasound images and surgical instruments needed to perform fine needle thyroid biopsy procedures. These simulators typically include anatomical models made of materials resembling human soft tissues. The models simulate the characteristics of the left and right lobes and the isthmus of the thyroid gland as well as the surrounding anatomic structures such as the trachea, esophagus, carotid arteries, and jugular veins. The anatomic model also includes masses that simulate a variety of sonographic appearances (e.g., hypoechoic, echolucent).
