  • Physiologic monitoring modules designed for monitoring the fetus when combined with a fetal or physiologic monitor or other compatible system. The modules, along with related devices, acquire, measure, and process information for the purpose of continuously monitoring fetal status. These modules typically consist of sensors placed externally on the mother\'s abdomen and are attached to the module and a wireless transmitter. The modules usually detect and measure physiologic parameters of the fetus such as heart rate, electrocardiography, and fetal movements; they may also measure maternal parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, and uterine activity. Fetal modules contain electronic circuits designed to acquire and/or process the signal from one or more physiologic sensors (e.g., electrodes, pressure sensors); the signals are then transmitted through a wireless link to the monitor, which contains software designed to support the module\'s intended function(s). Fetal monitoring modules are used during the antepartum and intrapartum periods.
