Systems that combine an external shock wave (ESW) therapy unit and an ultrasonic scanning (US) system. These systems typically consist of two main units for external shockwave and ultrasonic scanning, respectively, that are frequently mounted on a dedicated cart. The systems also include a monitor and handpieces for the application of radial, focused, and planar (defocused) shock waves, respectively. The procedures are usually performed using dedicated software. Combined ESW therapy units and US scanning systems are used in a variety of orthopedic (e.g., shoulder pain), surgical, dermatologic (e.g., wound healing), urologic (e.g., prostatitis, erectile dysfunction), rheumatologic and rehabilitative procedures.
