Cardiac occluders designed close off the left atrial appendage. These occluders may come as a variety of devices in different shapes and styles (e.g., self-expanding frame with anchors and a plastic cap) or as dedicated plastic clips. The occluders are usually delivered and deployed during cardiac catheterization procedures, but other types of minimal-access surgeries may be used for their deployment. Left atrial appendage occluders are mainly intended to prevent clot formation and stroke in patients with cardiac arrhythmias.
