Drivers designed to insert and operate mechanical fragmentation catheters intended for embolectomy and/or thrombectomy inside the vasculature. These drivers are usually handheld manual powered instruments that permit the location of a detachable fragmentation catheter at the distal end; the driving mechanism and the fragmentation catheter together perform thrombus and/or embolus fragmentation, aspiration, and removal in one operation. Mechanical fragmentation catheter drivers are used as components of systems used for embolectomy/thrombectomy procedures usually in catheterization laboratories.
