  • Physiologic monitors designed for continuous measurement and display of information related to the evoked potentials that are intended to assess the adequacy of the neurological activity of the nerves, brain, and spinal cord. Neurophysiologic monitors typically consist of a main computerized electronic unit that processes and displays the information; detachable electrodes (e.g., cups, needles) appropriate to acquire the specific neuro-electrical signals from the brain or spinal cord in response to stimulation; and integral or autonomous stimulators appropriate to provide the required stimuli. Neurologic monitors are used to assess patients in intensive care (e.g., irresponsive, coma), and during surgical procedures (e.g., cranial, spinal, vascular) or perioperatively.
