Physiologic monitors designed for continuous measurement and display of information related to the evoked potentials (typically motor and/or somatosensory, MEP and SSEP, respectively) that are intended to assess the adequacy of the neurological activity of the nerves, brain, and spinal cord during surgery. Neurophysiologic monitors typically consist of a main computerized electronic unit that processes and displays the information; detachable external electrodes (e.g., cups) appropriate to acquire the specific neuro-electrical signals from the brain or spinal cord in response to stimulation; and integral or autonomous stimulators appropriate to provide the required MEP or SSEP stimuli. Intraoperative neurologic monitors are used to assess patients during surgical procedures (e.g., cranial, spinal, vascular) and/or perioperatively.
