Systems designed for management of patient motion during radiotherapy planning and treatment (i.e., interfraction and intrafraction respectively). These systems usually consist of a set of sensors to detect the motion characteristics and a mechanism that triggers the imaging and/or radiotherapy administration systems at the proper time according to the position of the tumor. Patient motion management systems are mainly related to the cyclic movement of the thorax and abdomen due to the respiratory cycle but some systems are related to the motion due to other systems (e.g., muscular, cardiac, gastrointestinal). The motion management systems are mainly used during image-guided radiotherapy imaging, simulation, and treatment procedures.
