  • Audio recorders designed to store sound information in digital format in an electronic memory that have appropriate characteristics for voice processing. These recorders usually consist of an electronic device that includes an integral microphone and/or external jacks to attach microphones; an analog/digital converter; data processors; controls; and an electronic memory such as a hard disk. Some recorders include a media card slot for use with compact disks and ports for secure digital (SD) or compact flash (CF) cards. Voice processing recorders have characteristics to facilitate voice transcription and/or recognition using dedicated software and are mainly used in digital dictation systems. The recorders usually also have playing capabilities that include a digital/analog converter and either integral amplifiers and speakers or that provide output to sound reproduction systems.
