?:definition
  • Video recorders designed to store video (sometimes audio data as well) in digital format in an internal solid state memory (i.e., solid state drive [SSD]). These recorders usually consist of an electronic device that includes external connectors to attach video cameras or other sources of video and sound signals; data processors; controls; and an SSD memory. Some recorders include external slots or connectors for compact and digital versatile disks (i.e., CDs and DVDs respectively) or external memory cards. The video and audio information may be recorded using a variety of standards (e.g., NTSC, PAL). SSD video recorders usually have playing capabilities that include a digital/analog converter and usually provide output to television reproduction devices (e.g., video monitors or television sets). SSD video recorders are available in tabletop, rack mounted, and portable versions.
