Audio players designed to reproduce (playback) sound information stored in compact audio disks. These players usually consist of an electromechanical device that includes sound signal processors, controls, and an external slot for optical audio compact discs. The players may include a digital/analog converter and also integral amplifiers and speakers or provide output to sound reproduction systems. The audio information may be from disks that use a variety of formats and the content may be compressed using dedicated programs (including a very common format known as MP3). Compact disk audio players are available in tabletop, rack mounted, and portable versions and most compact disk audio recorders also include playback capabilities.
