Testers designed to assess the fitness of ear plugs and ear muffs to provide an appropriate hearing protection to individual users. These testers consist of a combination of: (1) an audio processor that converts the digital signal from the software to a signal useful for the headphones , (2) headphones that can work with a great variety of ear plugs and muffs, and (3) a software that is typically installed in a personal computer to control the parameters of the test and assess the results regarding the protection provided (i.e., fitness) of the plugs and muffs for a particular user. Ear plug and muffs fitting testers are used mainly to test the protection provided to people that work in noisy environments, avoiding overprotection.
