  • An animal conveyance device consisting of a platform (e.g., a sheet of canvas, nylon or other fabric, or a coach or tabletop) supported by a framework on which an animal (usually in a recumbent position) can be carried. Some animal stretchers are portable while others may have wheels or casters attached to their framework for mobility and may include special straps or mesh coverings to hold the animal in place. Some also include mechanisms (e.g., scissor lifts) to adjust the height of the stretcher. Animal stretchers are usually used on animals that cannot be easily lifted or transported by hand carrying alone due to their size or weight (e.g., dogs, primates).
