?:definition
  • Immunocytochemistry reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a tissue sample (typically paraffin embedded) to determine the protein p53, a nuclear phosphoprotein codified by the p53 tumor suppressor gene. The accumulation of p53 protein, a consequence of suppressor gene p53 inactivation, is considered a poor prognostic indicator in invasive breast cancer. The expression of protein p53 is also associated with poor survival in patients either with oral squamous cell carcinoma or with moderately differentiated, early stage, or residual epithelial ovarian cancer. The level of p53 protein is a marker of progression in classic Kaposi\'s sarcoma.
