  • Demagnetizers designed to remove magnetism from surgical instrument. Surgical instruments become magnetized when an external magnetic field aligns the internal magnetic fields of the instrument in such a way that the instrument magnetic field is strong enough to pick up small objects. Surgical instrument demagnetizers consist of electric equipment that generates an irregular magnetic field that is applied to the magnetized instrument causing a random orientation of the internal magnetic field components in the instrument, with the result of a non-significant net magnetic field (i.e., demagnetizing the instrument). Tabletop and handheld surgical instrument demagnetizers are available, some demagnetizers are capable of demagnetizing several instruments simultaneously including entire instrument trays without removing the instruments from their packages.
