  • Brachytherapy systems designed to deliver radiation therapy in the form of x-rays to tissues. These systems typically consist of a control system and a miniaturized, electronic x-ray source that generates high-dose-rate, low-energy x-rays. The x-ray source may be housed in a probe or in the tip of a flexible catheter, allowing the x-ray source to be placed in close proximity to the target tissue. During a radiation therapy procedure, the x-ray source is typically used with dedicated applicators intended to provide a uniform dose within the targeted field while limiting exposure of non-targeted tissue. The control system consists of a microprocessor-based computer that allows the user to modify treatment parameters; start and/or stop treatment; and record and review treatment data.
