?:definition
  • Physiologic monitoring systems designed for continuous measuring and display in a central station information of the pulmonary artery (PA) pressure and heart rate taken from an implantable sensor at a distant location (i.e., telemetric). These systems typically consist of a percutaneously powered implantable sensor, a guidewire based delivery system, and a central patient unit that includes the telemetric transmitter. The signal is transmitted through a wireless point to point radio or other appropriate communication link using a wireless transmitter at the remote point and a receiver that is integral or associated to the central station where the information is displayed. These systems can usually measure systolic, diastolic, and mean PA pressures and heart rate; other associated parameters can be assessed in the computerized central station. Pulmonary artery pressure/heart rate monitors are intended for patients with advanced state heart failure.
