Equipment designed to calibrate positive pressure airway (PAP) units to the therapeutic levels needed for the successful management of an individual patient. These calibrators usually consist of a computerized unit that control the therapeutic mode (e.g., continuous, two different levels, intermittent - CPAP, BIPAP, and IPPB respectively) and pressure level needed for the best possible sleeping. The calibrators are used in laboratory titration studies with appropriate masks, tubing and sensors to assess patent status while sleeping. Titration PAP calibrators are used to perform titration studies after a patient is diagnosed with a breathing disorder such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); some calibrators can provide automated reports of the titration study.
