Physiologic analyzers designed for non-invasive assessment of the main characteristics of the cardiovascular function and the blood central circulatory system based on the variations of the blood pressure waveform. These analyzers usually consist of a computerized unit that includes as components a calibrated tonometer to measure the blood pressure and an electrocardiograph, both with appropriate probes and leads, and also dedicated software. The equipment usually measure the blood pressure on an artery (e.g., radial), the pulse wave velocity between two arteries, and electrocardiography parameters such as heart rate. The analyzer asses some of the main parameters that determine the heart and vasculature status, such as ejection index and aortic blood pressure; the pressure on other arteries such as the brain and kidney may be also assessed. Conditions such as the cardiac function status, heart rate variability, and vascular elasticity (i.e., artery stiffness) are also assessed helping in the evaluation of risks for cardiac diseases and the evaluation of drug effects.
