Workstations designed to operate systems used in computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) of dental prostheses. These workstations typically consist of a high-speed digital computer with a powerful microprocessor, optical/magnetic disks, and input and output devices. They can obtain, process, and store digital dental topographic data and images (i.e., digital dental impressions) following a dedicated software and then send the data directly or through a network to milling units for automated manufacturing and/or repair of the required prostheses. The workstation usually interacts with the devices used in the procedure, such as the optical scanning system and milling/drilling machines. Dental prosthesis CAD/CAM workstations are used in dental treatment areas and also in dental laboratories.
