  • Scanning systems designed to capture three-dimensional (3-D) in-vivo images of the topographical features of feet from a plantar image digitizer. The system may be based on a plantar digitizing unit based on the plantar impression of the foot on a soft material or on a set of pins that are conformed following the plantar contour, a display of the digitized images, and controls for the numerical and image information data. Once the digital impression is assessed, it is sent electronically to a computer-aided manufacturing milling machine that may be located in the same orthopedic area or in a remote orthopedic laboratory for automated manufacturing of the model of an appropriate orthosis or prosthesis.
