  • Mattress covers intended to reduce the amount of friction and/or moisture against a patient\'s skin, and prevent and/or treat pressure ulcers. These covers typically include a water-resistant, water vapor permeable top layer. Some cover only the top of the mattress while others completely encase the mattress. Some moisture/temperature control covers have increased technical specifications (e.g., greater width and higher weight limit) to meet the needs of bariatric patients. Powered versions also may include a mesh-like spacer layer; an air pump continually passes air through the mesh layer, which draws moisture and heat away from the top layer helping to control the patient\'s temperature.
