Breast pads containing Manuka honey, with potential healing, wound repair, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and protective activities. Compared to other honey products, Manuka honey contains a high concentration of the 1,2-dicarbonyl compound methylglyoxal (MG), which may account for its antibacterial activity. Upon application of the Manuka honey breast pads to the nipples, the honey may decrease nipple sensitivity, such as radiation-induced nipple sensitivity. It may also decrease itching and pain, prevent inflammation and infection, and promote wound healing. The Manuka honey is produced by bees fed on the flowers of the New Zealand bush Leptospermum scoparium (Manuka, Manuka myrtle, New Zealand teatree).
