Systems intended to clear obstructions (e.g., blood, mucus) from the objective lens of a rigid endoscope intraoperatively without the need to remove the endoscope from the body. These systems typically consist of two components: an irrigation sheath and a pump console. Irrigation sheaths are designed to fit over endoscope shaft without substantially increasing the diameter of the endoscope assembly. These irrigation sheaths are available in various sizes to accommodate a range of endoscopes. The sheaths direct irrigation fluid to the objective lens as well as provide a pathway for removal of irrigation fluid by suction. The sheath is connected by a tubing set to the pump console. Endoscopic lens cleaner pumps are typically line-powered, microprocessor controlled units that, when activated by the user, provide an automated irrigation/aspiration cycle via the lens cleaner sheath.
