Point-of-care whole blood analyzers dedicated to measuring the level of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) activity in blood. These analyzers typically use an electrochemical method to detect the products of G6PD enzymatic activity. In addition, these analyzers may include a temperature sensor and/or the ability to detect hemoglobin levels, which are used to normalize G6PD activity levels. These G6PD analyzers are used by health professionals to test for glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, which may dispose patients to developing hemolytic anemia when exposed to certain drugs (e.g., primaquine, thiazide diuretics), foods (e.g., fava beans), or stress.
