Fasteners typically made from plastic or metal that have a flexible section on one end which feeds into the head on the other end. Teeth on the flexible end engage with a pawl in the head to form a ratchet. As the free end of the tie is pulled through the ratchet, the ratchet tightens and does not come undone. Cable ties are typically single-use devices; they are typically cut off rather than loosened and reused. However, some ties include a tab that can be depressed to release the ratchet so that the tie can be loosened or removed.
