Devices intended to allow a user to non-invasively change and/or verify the settings of a programmable hydrocephalic valve. Changing the valve settings modifies the opening pressure of the valve to adjust for over- or under-drainage. These adjustment tools typically employ a magnetic field to mechanically adjust the valve settings and are designed to work with a specific model of programmable valve (typically supplied by the same manufacturer). Both manual and electronic valve adjustment tools exist. Some electronic valve adjustment tools adjust the valve settings using coded magnetic fields, which are intended to prevent unintentional changes to valve settings by incidental exposure to environmental magnetic fields.
