Molecular assay reagents intended to identify zika virus, a single-stranded RNA virus of the family Flaviviridae, by detecting the nucleic acid of the target virus. This virus may cause acute febrile illness, neurologic complications (e.g., Guillain-Barre syndrome), and adverse fetal outcomes (e.g., microcephaly) in cases of maternal infection during pregnancy. The virus is usually transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes.
