Freestanding appliances that use the application of direct heat for warming and cooking food. The direct heat is produced using electric heating elements (burner or flattop plate surface) that converts electricity into heat through the resistive process, gas burners that generate a flame to produce heat, or electromagnetic resistance (induction) heating elements. Ranges have thermostatic controls and optional timer. Ranges are usually stationary and can include a standard oven, convection oven, or storage base.
