Manually operated devices designed to determine a hematocrit reading from a blood sample that has undergone centrifugation in a capillary tube. These devices are available in a variety of formats that allow the user to determine the length of the packed red-cell volume relative to the length of the total blood volume within the capillary tube. This is typically achieved by the user sequentially physically aligning specific sites within the blood sample (e.g., sealant/read blood cell layer interface, red blood cell layer/buffy coat layer interface, top of the plasma layer) to ruled lines on the reader.
