Guide wires designed to provide access to the gastrointestinal tract and facilitate passage/placement and exchange of instrumentation or devices during gastroenterological procedures (i.e., procedures involving the gastrointestinal tract, liver, or biliary system). Gastroenterological guide wires typically use one of three designs (monofilament, coiled, or coated). They are intended for use in a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and colonoscopy.
