  • Dilators designed to be placed on the external surface of the nose in order to mechanically augment the caliber of the nasal passage. These dilators typically consist of a short (usually approximately 3 inch/8 cm) in length and narrow (approximately 0.5 inch/1.5 cm) in width flexible material covered on one surface with an adhesive. These nasal strips typically incorporate a spring-like band between the upper and lower surfaces of the strip. Adhesion of the strip to the external skin surface of the nose causes the nasal passages to be pulled open as the spring-like band attempts to straighten. These nasal dilators are used to improve breathing by decreasing airway resistance and increasing nasal airflow.
