Controllers designed to regulate the operation of the zoom function (i.e., magnification) of certain video endoscopes. These controllers work in combination with video endoscopes (e.g., video colonoscopes, video gastroscopes) that contain a motorized actuator that controls the position of optical lenses in the distal tip of the endoscope and, thereby, the focal length/zoom setting of the endoscope camera. Endoscope magnification controllers allow the user to specify whether the zoom function of the video endoscope operates in a continuous or step-wise fashion in which the motorized actuator moves smoothly at a selected speed or jumps to one of several preset zoom settings. Activation of actuator movement may be performed using hand controls on the video endoscope or using a foot pedal connected to the endoscope magnification controller.
