Devices designed for both the measurement of the concentration of glucose in blood and the non-invasive measurement of blood pressure. Blood glucose measurement is typically accomplished using an electrochemical method (i.e., electric current is measured when glucose oxidase converts glucose to gluconic acid on a blood-dampened reagent strip). Blood pressure measurement is performed non-invasively using a blood pressure cuff, which is automatically inflated by an air pump incorporated in the unit. These devices may incorporate computerized data management capabilities for storage and retrieval of test results. These blood glucose analyzer/sphygmomanometers are intended to be used in the point-of-care setting and may be operated by healthcare providers (e.g., nurses) or patients with a minimum of, or without, previous training.
