Devices designed to function as the skin barrier component of a two-piece ostomy appliance . Two-piece ostomy appliance wafers typically consist of a swatch of bandage-like material with a central hole to accommodate the stoma. These devices typically incorporate a pressure-sensitive adhesive-coated side intended to be applied to the peristomal skin and a pouch-coupling side designed to allow attachment of a compatible ostomy collection bag. Two-piece ostomy appliances may be joined using either an adhesive or a plastic coupling consisting of interlocking rings on the skin-adhered wafer and pouch. Two-piece ostomy appliance wafers may be pre-cut to fit stomas of a certain size or adjustable to fit stomas of various sizes (i.e., cut-to-fit or moldable). Additionally, two-piece ostomy appliance wafers may be flat or convex, which are intended to be used on stomas that protrude from the abdominal skin or stomas that sit flat to or recessed from the abdominal skin, respectively.
