Simulators designed for training users in the performance of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) procedures. These simulators typically include an anatomic model (i.e., manikin) and an ECMO circuit (i.e., blood pump, oxygenator, and heat exchanger interconnected by tubing). These simulators typically allow users to simulate various conditions that may occur during ECMO procedures (e.g., thrombus, air embolus, hypervolemia) either by direct manipulation of the circuit by a user or by introduction of a computer-controlled unit introduced into the ECMO circuit. Some ECMO simulators also allow the simulation of the puncture and venous/arterial cannulation steps of the ECMO procedure.
