Hemostatic agents derived from animal gelatin and designed to promote hemorrhage control by creating a physical barrier to blood flow and by providing a scaffold for clot formation. These hemostatic agents are applied directly to the hemorrhage site and typically remain there until absorbed by the body. Gelatin hemostatic agents are available in a number of forms including films, powders, and sponges. These hemostatic agents do not contain an active component that directly activates clotting factors (e.g., thrombin).
