Hemostatic agents derived from plant cellulose that has been made water insoluble by chemical oxidation. These agents are intended to promote hemorrhage control by creating a physical barrier to blood flow and by providing a scaffold for clot formation. These hemostatic agents are applied directly to the hemorrhage site and typically remain there until absorbed by the body. Oxidized regenerated cellulose hemostatic agents are available in a number of forms including loose fibers and sheets.
