Controllers designed to maintain automatically the pressure of endotracheal tube or tracheostomy tube cuffs at a pre-determined level during mechanically assisted ventilation. These controllers usually consist of a handheld control unit and a cuff inflation tube. The control unit includes an electronic display and control buttons for setting, adjusting, and releasing cuff pressure. The control unit may be able to connect to compatible mechanical ventilators via a universal serial bus (USB) interface and, when connected in this manner, pressure controller function may be regulated via settings on the ventilator. The cuff inflation tubes are typically plastic, pre-sterilized, disposable tubes that incorporate an inline filter and a luer connection at their distal end appropriate for connection to cuff inflation lines (i.e., pilot lines) on endotracheal or tracheotomy tubes.
