Gowns designed to be worn during reprocessing and decontamination of devices and instruments in order to provide protection from chemical agents and the transfer of microorganisms and body fluid. These gowns are usually ankle-length and have long sleeves with elastic cuffs, thumb loops, full front and back coverage, and tie at the neck and waist. Some gowns have a closed back with an over-the-head design. Decontamination gowns are intended to fully cover the external clothing of the wearer. They are typically made of lightweight, fluid-resistant, breathable materials (e.g., polypropylene, polyethylene). The gowns may have a front panel made of a liquid impervious material, including preventing strikethrough of decontamination solutions. These gowns may be disposable or reusable.
