A standardized endoscopic scoring system that was developed as a simplified alternative to the Crohn\'s Disease Endoscopic Index of Severity (CDEIS) by Daperno et al. 2004. The presence and size of ulcerations and the extent of the inflammatory area and stenosis are assessed in each of the five ileocolonic segments (rectum, sigmoid and left colon, transverse colon, right colon, and ileum) and given a severity score ranging from zero to three, and the cumulative score is determined, with higher scores indicating severe disease.
