  • Epidemic diarrhea coronaviruses (PEDV), Deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) and acute diarrhea syndrome (SADS-CoV) are emerging/re-emerging pathogens that cause acute gastroenteritis in younger pigs The investigations of their sequences indicate that PEDV and SADS-CoV could have originated from the CoV of the bats and PDCoV from a CoV of the sparrow, confirming the great interspecies transmission capacity of these viruses The understanding of the presence in domestic species of Coronavirus derived from bats, which are the real and probably the only reservoir of these viruses, could represent a preventive epidemiological reading tool To date, this tool has been little used, as evidenced by the emergence in humans of highly lethal viral strains such as SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV or with pandemic capacity, such as the current SARS-CoV2 In this situation, the role of Veterinary Medical Science and related professions is evident and essential, because it is the only possibility of me- diation between the domestic and wild animal world and that of Public Health to protect human health
