The article is devoted to the analysis of socio-cultural problems covered by the Russian mass media in the initial period of development of the coronavirus epidemic in the country and in the world (April 2020) Emphasizing the important role of the media in the life of any modern society, and especially in the period of global socio-political instability, the author examines various aspects and painful nodes of this not only medical problem, identified in the information space The article shows some innovations which this epidemic has brought to Russians, causing not only fears for people’s lives, but also noticeable changes in the way of life of the country - downturns in the economy, changes in the health and education system, in cultural life, unbalance in many other areas of social life, changes in regional and federal government structures Based on the analysis of a large amount of empirical material presented in the Central and in the regional media, the author concludes that, despite the great significance of this event for the life of the country, this coronavirus phenomenon is only situational, and its development may not have fundamental changes related to public security in the country However, it is important to analyze carefully the lessons of the first months of general opposition to this epidemic, taking into account Russian and international experience And critical consideration of media materials can help accomplish this task effectively Статья посвящена анализу социально-культурных проблем, освещаемых российскими средствами массовой информации в начальный период развития эпидемии коронавируса в стране и в мире (апрель 2020 г ) Подчеркивая важную роль СМИ в жизни любого современного общества и особенно в период глобальной социально-политической нестабильности, автор рассматривает обозначенные в информационном пространстве различные аспекты и болевые узлы этой далеко не только медицинской проблемы В статье показано, какие нововведения принесла эта эпидемия россиянам, вызвав не только опасения за жизни людей, но и заметные изменения в их образе жизни - усугубление экономических трудностей в стране, изменения в системе здравоохранения и образования, в культурной жизни, нарушение равновесия во многих других сферах социальной жизни, изменения в региональных и федеральных структурах власти На основании анализа большого эмпирического материала, представленного в центральных и частично в региональных СМИ, автор приходит к выводу о том, что, несмотря на огромное негативное значение этого события в жизни страны, это коронавирусное явление носит лишь временный ситуационный характер, и его развитие не вызовет фундаментальных изменений, связанных с общественной безопасностью в стране Но для этого важно, учитывая российский и международный опыт, тщательно проанализировать уроки первых месяцев противостояния этой эпидемии Критическое рассмотрение материалов СМИ может быть использовано для этого с большой пользой
