  • The worldwide epidemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) poses a serious threat to public health The ongoing outbreak of emerging infectious disease has become the focus of global attention Benefited from the progress of molecular technology in recent years, the causative agent can be rapidly identified at the early stage With the release of the full genomic sequence of SARS-CoV-2, viral origin, biological characteristics and pathogenicity have been revealed preliminarily Many investigations provide references for developing antiviral drugs and vaccines Being the main diagnostic methods for detection of SARS-CoV-2, real-time RT-PCR and gene sequencing play major roles in confirming suspected cases In this review, we summarize current application of nucleic acid detection in SARS-CoV-2
